A bit of a rant...

I've been trying to write this post for 2 days now! I was very irritated Sunday afternoon, as I have been for the last three Sundays. The problem is a group of teenagers at our church.

I know church can be boring when you are in high school, and you want to be cool. But learn some respect! If you don't want to be there, go home. If you are forced by your parents to be there, then at least have the decency to be quiet! Pass notes if you want, draw pictures, but just be quiet. Don't play cards so loud that the pastor has to stop service to tell you to put them away, don't talk so loud that everyone turns their heads to see who is talking and the pastor looses his train of thought, don't walk around with your wallet chains rattling on the floor and please don't wear such revealing clothes that you look like a street walker and embarrass most of the people in church!

I don't like to think that I am so old fashioned that I can't have empathy for the kids who are forced to be there, but even when I was forced to attend church I knew what was expected of me. Have respect for the people that want to be there. Have respect for the old ladies who are having a hard enough time hearing the pastor as it is. And get some self respect! Do these kids even look in the mirror when they leave their house! And where are there parents?? These kids have to learn respect from somewhere. Why aren't their parents disciplining them? Why aren't their parents sitting in church telling them to be quiet?

So yes, these kids need to learn respect, but someone has to be the example. Where are their parents?

Ok, I think I am done for now, thanks for listening. This subject may come up later though...

When I was helping to teach the youth, I saw this all the time. I just want to yell at the parents to take a look at their child and stop them. Parents just aren't responsible anymore and that's why kids are the way they are now. It is so disheartening and irritating.

I can't agree more.

The scary thing about all this is that when I helped out in youth in our church in north portland the kids were better behaved than the ones in our church now....Yet, they were either on the street or in gangs!

I think they understand respect better in some instances because they have to when they are on the street or in gangs.

True and also because most of them that attend have hit rock bottom, so they want to be there, they want something better in their life. Or at least in my experience :)
